Coal tipple and Monongahela River, Fayette City, PA, 1924

Card type
Linen

About this postcard

A large red coal tipple stands at the river's edge at Fayette City, Pennsylvania, loading barges on the Monongahela. Railroad tracks and industrial buildings line the shore, with the town and wooded hills visible across the water. Coal tipples sorted and dumped coal from nearby mines into barges and rail cars, and the Monongahela was a busy route for moving southwestern Pennsylvania coal toward Pittsburgh.
