About this postcard

The Coast Royal hotel stands on a landscaped bluff above a sandy cove, its white stucco walls and red tile roofs set among terraced flower beds and a small red-roofed gazebo. Rocky ledges run into the Pacific beyond. The caption presents Laguna Beach as a sheltered resort, "nestled amid velvet turfed hills" and "flanked by white sandy beaches," protected from the wind by rugged slopes. By the early 1930s the town had grown from an artists' colony into a beach resort, and oceanfront hostelries like the Coast Royal served visitors drawn to its coves and scenery.
