A cluster of coconuts hangs from a palm tree in Honolulu, with fronds and trunk set against a bright sky. The close view makes the fruit the whole subject, a familiar emblem of the islands for visitors and a common sight in Hawaiian postcard imagery.
The card was mailed from Wahiawa in 1947, and the sender, Joe Hayes, jokes that he could not carry one of the coconuts home. Hawaii was then a U.S. territory, and such cards served as light souvenirs for friends on the mainland.
