About this postcard

A brick academic building with a mansard roof, dormer windows, and several tall chimneys, its facade partly covered in ivy. Steps at the left lead to an entrance, and mature trees frame the building under a blue sky with pink-tinged clouds. The printed caption reads Codd Hall; the catalog has carried the building as Fisk Hall. Wesleyan University, founded in 1831, occupies a rise above Middletown and the Connecticut River, and in the 1930s it was a small liberal arts college. The card was mailed in August 1937 to a grandmother in Malden, Massachusetts, by a grandson reporting that he had reached home safely on a Sunday night after a drive over roads he found a little slippery.
