About this postcard
An elevated view over the fenced grounds of the College Hill Reservoir in Lynchburg, Virginia. A circular basin with a fountain playing at its center sits inside a curbed walkway, with young trees and lawn around it, a horse and buggy on the drive, and houses and low hills beyond. Lynchburg built up on the hills above the James River, and its hilltop neighborhoods drew water from reservoirs like this one; the landscaped grounds made the site a local promenade as well as a utility. The card carries a short greeting to Blanche Lipecomb in Moneta, Virginia, posted from Bedford City. Brief social notes like this one were the ordinary traffic of the penny postcard era.
