About this postcard
The picture shows Colonnade Falls, a broad curtain of water dropping about 102 feet over a reddish-brown rock ledge into a dark pool, framed by dense lodgepole pine forest. The Bechler River, in the remote southwest corner of Yellowstone National Park, was celebrated for its chain of waterfalls and hot springs, and the Haynes photographic firm of Yellowstone was the park's principal concessioner of views and postcards for decades. The caption's own naming, "Colonnade Falls, 102 ft., Bechler River, Yellowstone Park," identifies the scene.
