About this postcard

The Colorado State Capitol stands at the crest of a slope on the west slope of Capitol Hill, then Denver's grand residential district. Its gilded dome rises above a classical granite facade of columns and pediments, with a four-globe street lamp and trees in the foreground. The grounds cover three full city squares and were described as one of the finest lawns in the world. Built of Colorado granite at a cost of $2.8 million exclusive of the site, the capitol was designed by Elijah E. Myers in the Corinthian style and opened in 1894; the dome was gilded in 1908 to mark the Colorado gold rush. It sits at the east end of Denver's Civic Center and remains the seat of the state legislature and governor.
