The Colorado State Capitol is seen from across its landscaped grounds, its gilded dome rising above a classical granite facade of columns and pediments, with a four-globe street lamp and trees in the foreground. The building was designed by Elijah E. Myers in a Corinthian style and opened in the 1890s; its dome was covered in gold leaf in 1908 to commemorate the Colorado gold rush. The capitol sits at the east end of Denver's Civic Center and remains the seat of Colorado's legislature and governor.
