About this postcard
The view follows the Columbia River Highway west from Eagle Creek, with a paved road and stone guard wall curving along a wooded cliff above the Columbia River. The printed caption identifies Tooth Mountain and, in the distance, the Bridge of the Gods. The highway was completed in 1915 and promoted as the "King of Roads" for its engineered curves, masonry retaining walls, and river overlooks. It helped launch the American scenic-highway movement. A caption quotes Richmond Pearson Hobson: "Only one city can have a Columbia River Highway. It will make Portland famous."
