About this postcard
A paved highway with a stone guard wall curves along a wooded cliff above the Columbia River, with a car visible on the road at left and forested mountains across the water. The caption identifies the view as the Columbia River Highway looking west from Eagle Creek. Built between 1913 and 1922 and promoted as the "King of Roads," the highway was the first scenic automobile route in the United States to be designated a National Historic Landmark, following the south bank of the Columbia through the Cascade Range's gorge.
