About this postcard

A paved road with a stone guard wall curves along a wooded cliff above the Columbia River, seen looking west from Eagle Creek in Oregon. The Columbia River Highway, completed in 1915 and promoted as the "King of Roads," was celebrated for its engineered curves, masonry retaining walls and overlooks such as this one, and it helped launch the American scenic-highway movement. The view takes in the river, forested slopes and distant bluffs of the Columbia River Gorge.
