Comic cowboy roping a calf, Cumberland, MD, 1907

About this postcard

A comic cowboy scene shows a bald, mustachioed man in a white shirt and red trousers swinging a lasso at a leaping red calf branded "WM," with fence posts and a dust cloud behind him. The printed headline "I'LL HAVE IT CORNORED SOON" puns on "cornered," with the misspelling played for humor. A handwritten birthday wish turns the roping gag into a greeting. Comic cowboy and cattle scenes were common in early twentieth-century American postcards, when Wild West shows and rodeo imagery were familiar popular entertainment.
