Comic cowboy roping a calf, "I'll Have It Cornored Soon", circa 1905

Card type
Lithograph

About this postcard

A comic chromolithograph shows a bald, mustachioed man in a white shirt and red trousers swinging a lasso at a leaping red calf branded "WM," with fence posts and a cloud of dust behind him. The punning headline "I'LL HAVE IT CORNORED SOON" plays on "cornered," and the card was used as a birthday greeting, as the handwritten wish "Many Happy Returns of the Day" indicates. Such humorous cowboy-and-cattle scenes were a staple of early twentieth-century American comic postcards, when the Wild West show and rodeo imagery was popular nationwide.
