About this postcard
A comic illustration of a Dutch boy and girl standing in grass, seen from behind. The boy wears a green shirt, patched yellow trousers, a brown hat, and wooden shoes, one hand resting on the girl's back. The girl wears a red top, a blue polka-dot skirt, a white bonnet, and wooden shoes. Above them, a printed verse in mock-Dutch dialect reads "My pandts may haf a Patch Budt I'd strike midt you a Match," a flirtatious pun on the boy's patched trousers and the word match. The dialect and wooden shoes were familiar comic shorthand for Dutch characters in early twentieth-century American postcards.
