About this postcard
A drawn comic girl in a black dress and red hair ribbon stands at the water's edge with a long pole, her line cast into stylized ripples. The printed gag, "I'm dropping you a Line From," turns letter writing into fishing, and the sender filled in the blank by hand with Monroe, Maine, signing herself Louise. The card went south to Charlotte S. Hassett at The Highlands in Amesbury, Massachusetts, a carriage-making and mill town in the northeast corner of the state. Cheap illustrated cards like this one carried a small joke and a line of greeting between friends and family for the price of a stamp.
