About this postcard

A comic scene shows a dapper man in a top hat and plaid overcoat pressing a folded banknote into the hand of a grinning farmer in a straw hat, red shirt, and blue overalls. The farmer already clutches a green bill, and a farmhouse and field sit at the left. The caption reads, "I've got a little money, and I've saved it all for you," playing on the era's stock joke of the city sharper and the country rube. The handwritten note mentions Forest Lake and jokes about a "gold brick," asking whether Dad thinks he could get a card for it. Such illustrated humor cards were a common, inexpensive way to send a quick note during the early twentieth-century postcard boom.
