About this postcard
A composite souvenir view of Peoria, Illinois: a long panorama of the town along the Illinois River fills the right side, a monument on a pedestal in a small park appears in the lower-left vignette, and an oval medallion wreathed in foliage sits at the upper left. Peoria, laid out in 1825 where the Illinois River widens into Lake Peoria, grew into a major river port and a leading distilling and agricultural-implement manufacturing center in the nineteenth century. The card follows the German-made 'gruss aus' montage style popular around 1900, combining several local views on one sheet.
