About this postcard

A composite souvenir card with small views of Baltimore landmarks arranged on a black field. The scenes include the Peabody Institute, the B.&O. Building, the Confederate Monument, the Court House, the Battle Monument, the Washington Monument, Mount Vernon Place, the Post Office, Lexington Market, City Hall, Mount Royal Station, and the lake in Druid Hill Park. The selection mixes civic buildings, monuments, a market, a railroad station, and park scenery, giving a compact tour of the city's public face in the early 1900s. Baltimore in 1907 was a busy port and railroad center. The B.&O. Building and Mount Royal Station reflected the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad's long presence in the city, while Mount Vernon Place and Druid Hill Park were established places for monuments, promenades, and public recreation. Lexington Market, already long established, represented the city's everyday commercial life.
