About this postcard
Louise de Broglie, Comtesse d'Haussonville, stands in a pale, full-skirted gown, one arm folded at her waist and a finger raised to her chin, looking directly at the viewer. Behind her a large mirror reflects the back of her head and shows a table with flowers, a vase, and a small clock. Ingres painted the portrait in 1845, and its cool, precise finish and the mirror device that lets him show the sitter from two angles at once were widely admired. The painting hangs in The Frick Collection in New York, the museum Henry Clay Frick's mansion became when it opened to the public in 1935, which gives the card its likely date.
