A broad unpaved road runs straight away from the viewer beneath a double row of mature shade trees, with open fields and a few low farm buildings visible beyond the trunks. The printed caption calls the scene one of the country roads leading into El Paso, passing through alfalfa and cotton fields irrigated from the Rio Grande. By the 1920s, irrigated farming in the El Paso valley depended on water diverted from the Rio Grande, and cotton and alfalfa were established crops there.
Narrow white border; heavy surface craquelure/cracking across the sky and trees; rounded, worn corners.
Postmark: EL PASO TEXAS APR 5 1924 3:30 PM. Divided-back photochrom-era card with white border; 1¢ Washington adhesive stamp; light creasing, edge wear and a few stains.
