About this postcard
A sepia-toned view of an enclosed courtyard garden at the Huntington Library and Art Gallery in San Marino. A tiered stone fountain and a small statue sit at the center, surrounded by dense palms, ferns, and flowering plants. Behind the planting runs a colonnade with a balustraded terrace, and a light-colored building with a balcony rises at the right. The Huntington was founded by Henry E. Huntington as a research library and art collection, and its gardens became a noted feature of the estate. The message on the back places the card in the mid-1930s, when the planetarium at Griffith Park was finished and drawing crowds, and Santa Monica seemed on the verge of a boom.
