About this postcard

A cowboy in a wide-brimmed hat, light coat, and fringed chaps sits a white horse facing a cowgirl in a red blouse, dark divided skirt, and hat on a matching white horse. The two animals stand nose to nose on open grassy prairie under a pale sky. The printed caption identifies the scene as the 101 Ranch at Bliss, Oklahoma, a sprawling Kay County cattle operation that George W. Miller established in the 1890s. By 1909 the Miller brothers' 101 Ranch Real Wild West show had made the ranch name familiar to audiences around the country, and its cowboys and cowgirls performed as authentic western riders. The image presents the pair as stock figures of the ranch and the show.
