A group of cowboys and their horses gathered in an open prairie camp, with two white canvas tents, a wagon, and a cook outfit. Several mounted and standing riders cluster around the remuda of dark horses, while a single white horse stands apart at right. Tucumcari was a railroad town in eastern New Mexico by 1911, and the camp's tents, wagon, and horse herd fit the working cattle country around it.
