About this postcard

A view across the deep blue water of Crater Lake toward the forested cone of Wizard Island, ringed by the pale, snow-streaked lava cliffs of the caldera rim, with evergreen trees and a snowbank in the foreground. Crater Lake fills the collapsed summit of Mount Mazama, a volcano that blew apart in a massive eruption roughly 7,700 years ago; Wizard Island is a cinder cone that later rose from the caldera floor. The lake, in southern Oregon's Cascade Range, became a national park in 1902 and is the deepest lake in the United States.
