About this postcard
The view shows Crested Pool, a deep blue-hot spring ringed by a bright orange and yellow bacterial mat, with the jagged siliceous cone of Castle Geyser steaming in the middle distance against a wall of lodgepole pines. Both features sit on the Geyser Hill–Upper Geyser Basin area of Yellowstone National Park, near Old Faithful. Castle Geyser's large cone is among the oldest sinter formations in the park, while Crested Pool is a famously clear, superheated spring whose rim colors come from thermophilic bacteria and algae.
