About this postcard
A dense throng of excursionists, most in straw boaters and summer suits, fills the Bowery at Coney Island, the wide promenade that served as the main artery of the resort's amusement district. Signs for "Lubin's" and "Griffins" and a bathing advertisement rise above the crowd. By the early 1900s Coney Island's Bowery was lined with hotels, bathhouses, saloons and concession stands and drew enormous weekend crowds arriving by steamer, trolley and subway. A small printed vignette at upper left shows a comic figure with an American flag above the words "Greetings from Picturesque America."
