About this postcard
A column of cadets in light blue uniforms and caps rides dark horses across a green parade ground, led by a rider carrying a tall white guidon, with the red brick, crenellated barracks of Culver Military Academy rising behind them. The card names the unit as the Culver Black Horse Troop, a mounted drill organization of the academy, which was founded in 1894 on the shore of Lake Maxinkuckee in northern Indiana. The Black Horse Troop, formed in the early 1900s, became the school's best-known ceremonial unit and has appeared as an escort in presidential inaugural parades.
