Cypress Gardens and the Singing Tower, Florida, 1941

About this postcard

Moss-draped cypress and palms frame a small arched bridge over a reflecting pool and flower beds at Florida Cypress Gardens, while the tall brick and tile Singing Tower rises above flowering shrubs and a pond with flamingos. The tower is the Singing Tower at Lake Wales, completed in 1929 as a carillon tower in a botanical garden. Cypress Gardens opened near Winter Haven in 1936 as a botanical garden and became one of central Florida's early tourist attractions. A poem by Hilda Towse, "Happiness in Florida," celebrates the state's sunshine and the happiness visitors find there.
