About this postcard
Passengers sit in rows of blue seats with white headrest covers along a red-carpeted aisle while a stewardess in a blue uniform reaches into an overhead rack. The cabin is the main saloon of an American Airlines DC-7 Flagship, the piston-engine equipment the line used on its premium transcontinental runs. American introduced the DC-7 in 1953 and promoted nonstop Los Angeles to New York service at 365 mph, a trip of roughly eight hours and among the first nonstop coast-to-coast schedules. The photograph is credited to Ivan Dmitri, a photographer known for his color work of the 1940s and 1950s.
