A small wooded islet, Dead Man's Island, sits alone in the calm water of Lake Champlain, framed by tall pines in the foreground and a low, dark headland on the horizon beneath a pink-and-yellow sunset sky. The card's own caption names the scene simply as "Lake Champlain. Dead Man's Island." Lake Champlain, the long lake between Vermont and New York extending into Quebec, has long been a subject for scenic postcards, and its many small islands were popular picturesque subjects in the early twentieth century.
No white border; fine halftone/stipple texture typical of early color-printed cards; caption printed in lower left corner; light edge and corner wear.
No postmark; back is entirely unused. Divided-back "POST CARD" with "MESSAGE MAY BE WRITTEN ON THIS SIDE" / "ADDRESS ONLY ON THIS SIDE" and a one-cent/two-cent stamp box; green imprint of The Hugh C. Leighton Co., Portland, Me., with "MADE IN GERMANY" and card no. 27455. Light toning/soiling, no damage.
