About this postcard
A reconstructed view of Deadwood, South Dakota as it looked in 1876: a wide dirt main street crowded with horse-drawn wagons, log piles and figures in frontier dress, lined with false-front wooden storefronts bearing signs for "Hermann Treber Wholesale Liquor Dealers," a bank, a dentist and a shingle dealer. Deadwood sprang up in the Black Hills during the 1876 gold rush and became famous for its lawless early years and figures such as Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. This linen-era card was issued as a nostalgic look back at the town's frontier heyday.
