Black-and-white portrait of Death Valley Scotty, the prospector and storyteller Walter E. Scott, standing with his hands in his pockets beside a large, ornate wooden door. He wears a white shirt, tie, and wide-brimmed hat. Scott's tall tales of a hidden gold mine and his association with Scotty's Castle made him a durable Western character and a draw for visitors to the Death Valley region.
