About this postcard

A distant view of Deer Isle Village, Maine, with scattered white and red-roofed houses spread across a wooded hillside above a small cove or inlet, seen over a foreground meadow and dark tree line. Deer Isle is a large island community in Penobscot Bay whose village grew around fishing, granite quarrying, and later summer resort trade. The card was printed in Austria for a local Deer Isle publisher, a common arrangement for small-town chromolithograph views of the era.
