About this postcard

The State Department building fills the frame, a granite office block in the French Second Empire style, with an American flag flying from the roof and an iron fence and lawn in the foreground. Completed in 1888 to designs by Alfred B. Mullett, it originally housed the State, War, and Navy Departments and was later known as the Old Executive Office Building, now the Eisenhower Executive Office Building beside the White House. By the time this card was mailed in 1945, the State Department still occupied the building, before its move to Foggy Bottom after the war.
