About this postcard
The view shows the Department of State building in Washington, D.C., a large Second Empire-style office building with a mansard roof, dormers, tall chimneys, and an American flag above it. An iron fence and low stone wall separate it from the street. The building is the old State, War and Navy Building beside the White House, designed by Alfred B. Mullett and completed in 1888. It housed the State Department until 1947, when the department moved to Foggy Bottom; the building later became the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
