Desert landscape with saguaro cactus and ocotillo, Arizona, 1948

About this postcard

A desert scene in Arizona with a tall saguaro cactus at left, several smaller saguaros, and clumps of ocotillo tipped with red flower spikes. Low green and blue-gray shrubs grow among rocky, purplish hills under a streaked blue and yellow sky. The printed caption calls the desert beyond the blue horizon alluring in scenic splendor and describes spring, when native trees and plants bloom and turn the desert into a carpet of rainbow hue. Saguaro and ocotillo are common Sonoran Desert plants; ocotillo often flowers in spring, and saguaro stands are a familiar sight in southern Arizona.

Boulder City last night. Saw movies of the construction of the dam first now. It was a job but not as great as coulee. We leave now to view insides of the dam. Hope all is well there. Love from mother.
