"Desert Sweethearts" — two burros in a desert landscape, circa 1940

Card type
Linen

About this postcard

A dark burro and a lighter gray burro stand side by side on sandy desert ground, with eroded red and ochre buttes and a range of hazy purple mountains behind them under a blue sky. The card's own caption names the pair "Desert Sweethearts," a typical mid-century Western humor title. Burros like these, descended from pack animals of prospectors and miners, became a familiar sight around Southwestern mining towns and later roadside attractions.
