About this postcard

Looking across the Detroit River toward downtown Detroit, with a white excursion steamer and other vessels along the waterfront in the foreground. The Greater Penobscot Building and the Guardian Building rise in the skyline, both landmarks of the city's 1920s building boom. By the late 1930s the riverfront remained a busy arrival point for passenger boats and commercial traffic, and the skyline was Detroit's signature view from the water.
