Dock Street along the canal, Schenectady, New York, circa 1910

About this postcard

The view looks down Dock Street in Schenectady, New York, where a broad canal basin mirrors the commercial blocks, frame buildings and rows of telegraph and trolley poles lining the water; a small enclosed launch is moored at the left bank. Dock Street ran beside the city's Erie Canal waterfront, a busy transshipment point for freight boats before the canal was filled and rerouted through Schenectady in the 1920s. The greenish halftone printing and the message squeezed onto the picture side are typical of the undivided-back era.
