About this postcard
View of Dover Dam, a concrete gravity dam spanning the Tuscarawas River, with water spilling over the stepped spillway and a gatehouse and arched parapet on the left abutment; wooded hills and eroded red clay banks rise behind. The dam was built in the 1930s as part of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District's flood-control system in eastern Ohio, near the communities of Dover and New Philadelphia south of Canton. The caption names all three towns, and the card's sunset-tinted coloring is typical of mid-century linen postcards.
