About this postcard

A novelty comic card titled "Down in Texas," printed in blue with cartoon vignettes — a saguaro cactus in a desert landscape, a red Texas star entwined with bluebonnets, a cowboy on a bucking yellow horse, a small red mission-style building with palms, and a figure riding a horseshoe — surrounding a long tall-tale poem about Texas boasting, gunplay, heat and sleet. The verse is a piece of mid-century Western humor playing on the state's rough-and-tumble reputation. The card was copyrighted by the E. C. Kropp Co. of Milwaukee, a prolific publisher of linen-texture view and comic cards from the 1930s into the 1950s.
