Drinking hot water at one of the fountains, Hot Springs, AR, 1912

About this postcard

Men in suits, suspenders, and straw hats gather around an ornate stone fountain in a tree-shaded park at Hot Springs, Arkansas. One man leans in to drink from a cup at the spout while others wait nearby; a commercial building and a slice of street appear at the left edge. Hot Springs was then a popular health resort, and visitors often took the thermal water as part of a morning health routine. The sender's note jokes about that morning drink and "Corn juice from the same old still," a wry contrast with the spa routine.
