A shaded roadway curves through dense foliage in Ellis Park, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A large weeping tree leans over the drive, and a small rustic sign stands at the right. Ellis Park was one of Cedar Rapids' older public grounds, a wooded retreat along the Cedar River with drives for city residents. The sender's note records a first trip into Iowa, with praise for the corn fields, maples and oaks, and the beautiful colors of the season.

Finally got to Iowa yesterday.
Folks R surely treating us swell.
Weather has been so
ideal - all the way. I knew
you would fall for Minn.
Have seen so many large
corn fields + gorgeous
trees - maples - oaks + their
colors are so beautiful.
But we also have seen
some mighty hilly
land as well as the
flat plains. Don't know
why we didn't insist
on you coming too. Some
Dottie
