About this postcard

The view looks down a broad unpaved drive in City Park, with live oaks heavy with Spanish moss and palms lining the way. A man in a light suit and straw hat drives a small horse-drawn runabout with a white horse toward the viewer; a park bench sits at the right, and low buildings and a cupola appear in the distance. The main entrance gate, a gift from Italian philanthropist Commendatore Ettore Pizzati, is part of the scene. City Park was laid out in the 1850s on former Allard Plantation land along Bayou St. John and grew into one of the largest urban parks in the United States, known for its moss-draped oak avenues.
