About this postcard
A flat-roofed adobe house with a shaded porch (portal) on wooden posts fills the scene, long strings of red chili hanging to dry from the roof beams, with a flower-covered tree at right and blue-purple mountains behind. At lower left two women wrapped in dark blankets bend over beehive-shaped outdoor adobe ovens (hornos), baking bread, while a second adobe building with blue-trimmed windows and more chili hangs stands at the left. The card presents a stylized, brightly colored view of Pueblo and Hispanic New Mexican domestic life, where chili ristras dried under the eaves and hornos for baking bread were standard household practice.
