About this postcard
An adobe house with a shaded portal on wooden posts fills the scene, strings of red chili hanging to dry from the roof beams. A flower-covered tree stands at right, with blue-purple mountains behind. At lower left, two women wrapped in dark blankets bend over beehive-shaped outdoor adobe ovens, or hornos, baking bread; a second adobe building with blue-trimmed windows and more hanging chili stands at left. The printed caption calls the scene "A Picturesque Home of the Southwest" and notes that chili peppers hang in front of Native and Mexican dwellings, a common household practice in the region.
