About this postcard

A high vantage looks down over the rooftops and yards of a lakeside town toward a broad harbor, where long ore docks and warehouses line the water and a steel transporter bridge spans the ship channel in the distance. The card labels the scene "DULUTH Harbor." The structure shown is the Aerial Lift Bridge of 1905, originally built as a transporter bridge carrying a suspended gondola across the Duluth Ship Canal; it was rebuilt as a vertical-lift bridge in 1930. The long timber docks visible along the water were used to load iron ore from the Mesabi Range into lake freighters.
