About this postcard
The photograph shows E. C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, Virginia, a long, low brick building with rows of windows and a projecting columned entrance, set behind a broad lawn and curving driveway. Mature shade trees frame the building, and a few automobiles are parked near the wings. The printed caption calls it "One of the South's most modern High Schools" and notes that its auditorium was often referred to as the Radio City Music Hall. The building opened in 1953, when postwar school construction was reshaping American secondary education, and the school carries the name of Edward Christian Glass, a longtime Lynchburg superintendent.
