A tinted view of Echo Bridge, the granite aqueduct arch that carries the Sudbury River aqueduct over the Charles River at Newton Upper Falls. The bridge stands in a wooded valley, seen across still water with dense trees on both banks. Built in the 1870s for the Boston Water Works, its single masonry arch was among the longest of its kind in the United States. The name comes from the echo heard beneath the arch, a curiosity that drew Victorian sightseers to the spot.

All is well, we
think of you often,
and if we cannot
find time to write
many letters, always
remember, the distance
is never to great to
prevent, the sending
of loving thoughts.
