Embossed holly and horseshoe Christmas greeting, circa 1910

Card type
Novelty

About this postcard

A deeply die-pressed Christmas card shows a brown horseshoe framing a small snow-covered church with a blue roof and steeple, surrounded by sprays of blue-green holly leaves and clusters of red berries, with a crescent moon and stars in the upper left. The greeting 'MERRY CHRISTMAS' is embossed in the lower right corner. Horseshoes and holly were standard good-luck and evergreen motifs on early twentieth-century holiday postcards, and the deep relief pressing marks this as a novelty card rather than a flat-printed lithograph.

We got home O.K. but was pretty cold. Will come out on the 1.45 car and went back on the 4.14 so we didn't see him. Your Sister Eva.
